Happy Turkey Day everyone! Gobble gobble, wobble wobble. Stay Safe.
As most of you have heard about the many terrorism incidents across the world lately, from the Paris shooting to the Egypt plane bombing, you may be wondering “should I be traveling right now? Is it safe to go anywhere?” The answer is yes! Just think about the risks versus benefits as found in this article and put these attacks into perspective. Remember, terrorists can only win if you let them instill terror. Do not let minor setbacks prevent you from achieving your goals!
Started in 1891, Fiesta is a large festival over 10 days of April annually celebrating the battles of the Alamo and others. Besides SXSW in Austin that I know of, there are not too many events in which the party lasts for over a week. This celebration now spans the entire San Antonio with events occurring everywhere, not just downtown. Look on a map and see the whole city filled with activities. Most notable are the festivals, full of food and music, and parades. Most of the events feature the same or very similar food so if you attend one, you have attended most of them. Many organizations put on their own recognition events or parades and sell tickets to raise funds. Of the notable events, the Oyster Bake, Taste of New Orleans, and A Night in Old San Antonio (NIOSA) are highly recommended. Oyster Bake occurs on the campus of St. Mary’s University and is a surprisingly large festival with concerts, amusement park rides, and a great variety of street foods including sausages on a stick and fried oysters! I have not attended the Taste of New Orleans but from the description, it is pretty self-explanatory. NIOSA occurs downtown and features food from many different cultures around the world. Although the food is average and expensive, the chaotic experience, especially later at night, is the main attraction. The later is gets, the more crowded it gets and at some points, as crowded as the metro stations in China during rush hour that walking through becomes hard. As with most events with alcohol, this is just another excuse to party hard. More information can be found here on the official website. This is definitely worth checking out at least once.
